Research Interests:

Notes:
Miriam Golden has for many years studied labor relations and politics. She has written Heroic Defeats: The Politics of Job Loss (Cambridge University Press) and Labor Divided: Austerity and Working-Class Politics in Contemporary Italy (Cornell). With Michael Wallerstein and Peter Lange, she collaborated on a National Science Foundation project that produced a benchmark dataset on unions, employers, collective bargaining, and industrial relations in advanced democratic societies. Used by researchers around the world, the dataset can be accessed at http://www.shelley.polisci.ucla.edu/data. More recently, Golden's interests have turned to issues of political accountability, and she is currently working on a project on political corruption in wealthy democracies. Between 1995 and 2000, she served as the Editor of the Newsletter of the American Political Science Association's (APSA) Organized Section in Comparative Politics, and between 2000 and 2004, she was the Founding Director of the Center for Comparative and Global Research, housed in UCLA's International Institute. Golden has held multiple grants from the National Science Foundation and the German Marshall Fund of the United States, and recently spent a year as a Visiting Scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation, New York. Professor Golden teaches undergraduate courses on comparative politics and on West European politics, and graduate seminars on European politics and on political corruption.
